1. Read a Lot and Gain Knowledge

Its totally important that you are well-informed not only on how to teach your children but also on how well you know the subjects youre going to teach. Think of the range of subjects your children would encounter in the public school system. History, science, and literature are some of them. Read extensively on the subjects and gain general knowledge of each.

2. Start with a Clear Plan

Before you start homeschooling, you must have a clear plan of attainable goals for each subject. The first step is to make a general-goals outline, and then divide it into some single subject areas that youre planning to teach. After that, you need to set up the curriculum in terms/periods, which you can copy from public schools. It will ensure you that your kids will become educated at the same pace or ahead of their peers. However, you can also establish your own specific curriculum, which will allow you to measure your kids development. This will also benefit at implementing a more effective teaching method.

3. Homeschooling is not School-at-Home

4. There is a significant distinction between Homeschooling and School-at-Home. One of the concepts of homeschooling is that it carries out standard lessons and schoolwork at home, and home definitely becomes a part of the schooling itself. Meanwhile, school-at-home probably means your kids must sit at their tables for long hours while lessons are presented. So, in homeschooling, if your child wants to sit on a couch while listening to a lesson, let her do it, but of course you must avoid it when your child shows a sign of lack of discipline.

5. Come up with Projects

Projects are absolutely important and beneficial in homeschooling. Not only will your children learn a lot more about the lessons, but they also will be interested and engaged themselves in the projects/lessons. So, dont forget to include the projects while setting up your homeschooling plan. However, its also alright to ask your children about their own favorite projects once in a while.

6. Learn Together

Keep in mind that homeschooling is most effective when there is a shared educational experience between the children and parents. Never hesitate to choose projects or exercises that interest you as well, since its very important that you enjoy and are interested in the subjects you are teaching. If you dont like the topic, its more likely that you and your child will not take pleasure and get the benefits of the session.

When you already accomplish those five important steps, its now your time to start the homeschooling. Its also a good thing if you want to discuss anything about homeschooling with other parents who already put it into practice. Dont be shy!

Enjoy your homeschooling!
