Addiction and substance abuse is undermining the very moral fabric and future of America today. In 1995 it was estimated that the cost of alcohol and other drugs reached a staggering figure of 276 billion, not including the pain and suffering of loved ones and friends. Alcoholics have an estimated decrease in life expectancy of 10-15 years, with alcohol the most frequently used and abused intoxicant and involved in 40% of all fatal motor vehicle accidents (1 and 2).
Although not illegal, nicotine accounts for approximately 25 million people addicted and is the cause of 430,000 tobacco related deaths per year.
The most commonly abused opiates are, heroin and methadone. It has been estimated by the National Institute of Drug Abuse that approximately 2.5 million Americans have a history of heroin abuse (3).
Stimulants such as cocaine are widespread as well in America and it is estimated 72 million Americans have tried or are using or cocaine (3).
Methamphetamine is growing at an unstoppable rate due to the ease of making the drug, and is now competing with cocaine as a drug of choice.
Although there are numerous examples of addictive drugs in America they all show similar symptoms and qualities of craving and withdrawal conditions. The individuals at greatest risk are genetically predisposed through a neurochemical pathway that alters the minds perception of pleasure and reward. Kenneth Blum, coined the term, Reward Deficiency Syndrome, to relate to the neurotransmitter deficit that occurs due to use of drugs and alcohol. Although the pathways may vary, depending on the abused substance, they all show a common final neurochemical pathway in their expression of euphoria when abundant, and craving when deficient.
The important Amino-peptide neurotransmitters to date are serotonin, dopamine, GABA and the enkephalins. Dopamine specifically is the neurotransmitter of pleasure. When dopamine is in abundance, it provides a state of well-being. Although this research will focus on alcohol, there are many other substances that can alter the increase in dopamine resulting in pleasure. Other altering scenarios can be glucose, impulsive/compulsive disorders, gambling and risk-taking activities, opiates, cocaine and cigarettes.
When the brain is supplied with a substance a momentary spike in neurotransmitter activity of dopamine occurs. The body then reacts to down regulate this excessive increase by down regulating the neurotransmitter sites of production or receptor sites, or by increasing the breakdown of neurotransmitters. Because of this, the brain develops tolerance and the need for more of the drug to prevent a state of withdrawal.
The point at which addiction can occur is variable and based on the individuals genes. Recently, the dopamine D2 receptor called the A1allele, has been known to be a greater prevalence for alcoholics, opiate or cocaine addicts.
This pleasure and reward system was discovered, by accident, in 1954 by James Otis. By mistake, Otis placed electrodes in the Para limbic system of rats. In doing so, Otis observed he could elicit a pleasure response. This response caused the rats to continuously press a lever, causing an electrical stimulation to this area even to the point of starvation. It was later noted that an increase in dopamine was being released in regions of the limbic system, specifically the nucleus accumbens and the hippocampus.
Recently, a pharmacological approach to alter these neurotransmitters and help people with reward deficiency syndrome has been found. Studies by Brown and Blum indicate that certain amino acid precursors can relieve cravings and reduce incidents of a relapse. Oral formulas have been formulated and produced with these amino acids, vitamins and minerals cofactors. Recently an intravenous pharmacological approach utilizing amino acid neurotransmitter precursors have shown to have an immediate and profound effect on craving reduction and withdrawals in 86% of the patients with no side effects noted by this researcher or by Excel treatment facility during the last two years. The intravenous amino acids, vitamins, and mineral therapy appears to augment the dopamine and serotonin levels while the body begins to return to better handling oral nutrients and neurotransmitter homeostasis.
This study has been implemented to determine the efficacy of intravenous amino acids to reduce withdrawal and craving from substance abuse.
Methodology
Nine subjects were picked from phone in volunteers from a local Denver newspaper add (Exhibit 1).
Inclusion into the study are individuals who are between the ages of 18 and 50 years old, in good health, not court ordered and who desire to stop their substance abuse, but to date, are unable to do so. Methadone or a history of psychiatric hospitalize subjects are excluded from this study. All subjects will undergo a history and physical exam and a doctor will be present at all times. Initials will be used for publishing purposes only and strict confidentiality will be observed of all subjects.
The treatment subjects will undergo 10 sessions (Monday thru Friday) of a multi amino acid, vitamin and mineral solution in a 250cc NS bag group or a placebo group of Vitamins (B2, B12 and Folate) in a 250cc NS bag with matching color and volume. All subjects will undergo drug testing for their addiction including random breath and/or urine drug tests.
If you smoke, you will be asked to keep track of the number of cigarettes smoked daily.
To be entered into the research group each individual must meet the requirement of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders TR (DSM-IV TR) for an Axis-I drug dependence.
Axis-I 303.90 Alcohol Dependence
Axis-I 304.40 Amphetamine Dependence Including Methamphetamine
Axis-I 304.30 Cannabis Dependence
Axis-I 304.20 Cocaine Dependence
Axis-I 305.10 Nicotine Dependence
Axis-I 304.00 Opioid Dependence
Axis-I 304.90 Polysubstance-related Disorder
Other axis-I substance dependence disorders will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
The research subjects will be placed randomly into two equal groups A and B.
The control-or placebo-group will receive an intravenous solution of 250 cc of a normal saline bag with B2, B12 and folate to give the distinctive color to the bags.
The experimental group will be given an intravenous solution consisting of a patented formula titled TGGRS Treatment (Third Generation Genetic Repair System). The Tigers Treatment consists of multi amino acids, vitamins and mineral solution drip over a 1 & 2-hour period for 10 sessions. All subjects will be randomly be monitored by blowing a B.A.C. or urine drug tests. A questionnaire will also be required to rate their craving and anxiety symptoms each session. Specific cravings will be rated from a zero (0)-indicating no craving or withdrawal, to a ten (10)-indicating maximum craving or withdrawal symptoms.
The intravenous bags will be marked Group A and Group B and will be made by a local compounding pharmacist. He will have no contact with the subjects. Heart rate, blood pressure and level of subject mental status will be conducted before each session. During the study, all subjects will be asked to eliminate or cut back on their alcohol or drug consumption but at any time may voluntary return to their pre-study consumption level, or be asked to by the doctor, if sever withdrawal symptoms occur. Failure to participate in 90% of the study will be grounds for dismissal. The people involved in administering the I.V. and monitoring the people will not know which bags contain the amino acids and which contain the placebo. At the end of 10-days the pharmacists will expose which group was the experimental group and which group was the placebo group-A or B, respectively. At that time the experimental and the placebo groups will undergo a daily debriefing and questionnaire rating their withdrawal symptom success and anti-craving level.
At the end of 10 sessions, the treatment group will be given 5 additional treatments of the same solution with D-phenylalanine added. Afterwards, the placebo group will get the treatment solution for 5 sessions followed by 5 session with D-phenylalanine added. All subjects at the end of their intravenous sessions will be debriefed and given the opportunity to take a one months worth of a similar oral based formula for maintenance efficacy.

To stay sober, the war on addiction has many battlefronts to concour from dealing with initial withdrawals and craving to handling family and friend enablers, denial, stress, temptation and faith that we can overcome the disease that seals the heart, soul and life of mankind.
From Jan 21 until Feb 17th nine volunteers under took a major step to sobriety by introducing nutrition building blocks of neurotransmitters by intravenous means to battle withdrawal and cravings aspects. Only one individual had no response to our amino acids vitamin and mineral cocktail and continue daily drinking with no perceived change in anxiety and craving. All others expressed a significant response from moderate to profound anti-craving benefits by the end of the study.
The A group (RH, RY, KM, RA) received vitamins for the first 10 sessions, and although noticed a slight reduction in craving and anxiety, RY, KM, KA continued to drink. RH had marijuana addiction problems and throughout the study he did not use. The B group (RM, DR, RD, DB, JD) received the therapeutic formula less the D isomer of phenylalanine. They all continued drinking and showed no significant change in craving and anxiety. The A group noticed no significant change as well to 5 days of the therapeutic formula minus the D isomer. It wasnt until the last 5 days in both groups that a significant response in drinking reduction in sobriety along with cravings and anxiety reduction occurring.
The D isomer of phenylalanine appears to be a crucial component in withdrawal and craving issues. Addition to alcohol and drugs is caused by an imbalance or defiency of neurotransmitter activity in a cascade mode. Per Dr Blum serotonin releases enkephalin in the hypothalamus and enkephalin inhibits the release of GABA in the substantia nigra. The inhibition of GABA permits the release of dopamine in both the nucleus accumbens and the hippocampus.
Apparently up regulation of serotonin by tryptofan is not enough to release sufficient enkephalins to have an impact on up regulating dopamine despite direct stimulation of L-phenylalanine and L-tyrosine on increased dopamine production. The D form of phenylalanine, which inhibits enkephalin, appears paramount in the cascade theory and therefore causing substantial anxiety and craving reduction. Enkephlins are natures natural painkillers and a reduction in pain appears critical to suppressing withdrawal and craving symptoms as well as balancing neurotransmitters. This study supports the 86% recovery rate in retrospective review of the current intravenous amino acid (TGGRS solution) being conducted at Excel treatment and recovery program. However, future clinical trials with genetic testing and greater numbers coupled with a variety of addictions would better support statistical efficacy of intravenous amino acid supplementation. In addition, why 10 to 15 percent of the population fail this program possibly could be cause from a yet unknown genetic pathway of metabolism with nationality possibly playing a role in this failure rate.
Conclusion
The TGGRS intravenous amino acid program in its current formula had statistical efficacy in nine patients ability to handle their craving and anxiety perception and their ability to withdraw from alcohol. The D-phenylalanine isomer appears to be an essential ingredient to this formula. Together with education and counselling and nutrition, intravenous amino acid supplementation will prove to be a powerful tool in initially combating the evil grasp of addiction in todays society.

It was a pathetic, unprecedented scenario in Germanys TV channel when Erik Zabel, the cyclist, with tears in his eyes, and an emotionally distorted face, confessed in front of 5,5 million viewers that he had doped with Epo during the Tour de France in 1996. Tour de France, Giro di Italia, Tour de Lndle, he was a constant participant for T-Mobile. It was a sensation in Germany because bike-riding has become a sort of Volkssport. And the city of Freiburg, in its perpetual search for attractive titles calls itself the Capital of Cyclists.
Now the entire German nations attention is turned upon Jan Ulrich, the cyclist from Merdingen near Freiburg, for hed done an offensive media campaign to save his skin earlier at B. Kerners TV show by repeating: I repeat, I have never injected epo and have never taken drugs in my life. A clean German hero? An entire packet with his blood samples were revealed in Spain. Somehow, to viewers in Germany, Jans assurances sounded like the last words of the politician Rainer Barschel just before his exit. The hollow litany, Ich versichere Ihnen echoes still in our ears. Jans tour helper Christian Henn who was tested during a doping-control with an overdose of testosterone values.
Eric Zabel wasnt alone in his candid confession. Rolf Aldag, the Sport director of T-Mobile also admitted having encouraged the use of Epo as far back as 1995. According to Der Spiegel in the Telekom-team there has been systematic and thoroughly doping as in the cases of the entire concurring teams. The Dane Brian Holm also belongs to the list of sportsmen who admitted to doping: Bert Dietz, Christian Henn, Udo Blts, Rolf Aldag and Erik Zabel. During an ARD-interview Zabel said: The generation before us rode their cycles with amphetamines. My generation goes in the history of cycling as the Epo-generation. After the Fuentes-scandal we came to know about the blood-change doping. The future generation of cyclists will be the gene-doping generation. The irony of Udo Blts is that he even wrote a book last year with the title Qul dich, du Sau (Torture Yourself, You Swine) and posed as a fighter against doping.
Ethics, morale and fairness seem to be conspicuous through their absence. The basic behaviour seems to be to make money through sport, despite the critic in the media against doping in sport. Doping was tolerated and even supported by the people involved in sporting events in different parts of Europe. The collective conscience seems to question Erik Zabels wet eyes as crocodile tears, and the confession as partial truths, perfectly staged pseudo-transparency. Was it a well-organised show run by ARD, ZDF and N24? Your guess is as good as mine.
The worst part of this unfurling scenario is the fact that the University of Freiburg and its Department of Sport Medicine have a reputation to lose, since the media have started calling Freiburg a doping university. Were very worried about the ethical problem, says the University rector Wolfgang Jger, and he sees the danger of his elite university being dragged in the swamp of doping. Two medic doctors Lothar Heinrich and Andreas Schmid have been fired and therapies for sport medicine have been stopped, and an evaluations committee is to look into the matter, which dates back to at least twenty years. The files are all there at the university archive, kept with German thoroughness, perseverance and sense of order. As a German saying goes: lies have short legs, which means you cant lie to all the people all the time. And Freiburgs Sport Medicine physicians have been supplying T-Mobile based in Bonn with doping substances since many years, including epo even though its against the drug law of the country, sportsmanship and the Code of Hippocrates.
The doctors Heinrich and Schmid have regretted their mistakes through their respective lawyers, and Heinrich went even further to say that hed engage in the fight against doping.
The state attorney of Freiburg has taken over the matter in the case of Heinrich and Schmid and mentioned that the matter regarding doping would not be followed up when it is over five years old. Nevertheless, the state attorney wants to find out whether the Telekom and T-Mobile teams used doping between 2002 and 2007. The university rector has no idea where the doping substances came from and how their were billed by the accounts section.
A lot of questions have to be answered and the doping affair timing is wrong, because the university of Freiburg is celebrating its 550 anniversary and Freiburg wants to be recognised as an elite university this autumn. Its like getting an academic oscar for excellence. The nomination of Freiburg as an elite university will go on, despite the doping scandal. After all, Freiburg is also my Alma mater, and I can only cross my fingers and whisper as we do in Germany: Toi! Toi! Toi!

When you receive the Seal, God will give you the spiritual power to break your addictions. That is the power needed by many physicians who have kept their practices while in treatment for addictions.
It is estimated that there may be up to 8000 physicians across the United States who are in confidential treatment programs. They are not required to disclose their addiction to their patients, or that they are undergoing treatment for it.
Most states in the US offer this confidential rehabilitation for the 1 percent of physicians who need treatment. Physicians develop addictions at a similar rate to the rest of the population.
So 10 or more percent of physicians have developed or will develop drug dependency or abuse sooner or later during their lives. Of course with only 1 percent in treatment, the rest of the physicians are possibly practicing while addicted–some even under the influence.
Few cases have been reported of any physicians anywhere in the country giving actual medical care while intoxicated with drugs or alcohol, but that has not stopped California from discontinuing its confidential treatment program.
Those who are against confidential treatment claim that dangerous doctors are unfairly protected by the programs. Intoxication could be responsible for some of the numerous medical mistakes that kill people each year.
Those who are for confidential treatment say that without such programs the doctors are more likely to be pressured into practicing intoxicated because they will try to hide their addiction from people.
They say that without confidentiality they will not enter the treatment program. They will not want their addiction to be discovered, and that is where there is danger. Because if they never get help then they will end up putting people at risk.
Then things would get worse for the doctors because they would never get treatment. And then things would get worse for the patients who would not have a chance to be treated by a doctor in recovery but more likely a doctor actually under the influence.
It is the experts in addictions who favor the confidential treatment program. People like addictions counselors say that without treatment the addictions are more likely to spiral out of control, and the doctors more likely to practice while intoxicated.
Also the American Medical Association advocates confidential treatment. Nevertheless, those who oppose it cite the vulnerability people have who trust doctors with their health and often with their lives.
When you are sealed God will empower you to overcome addictions. It may not happen immediately and it may not happen overnight. It is a lifelong process–a journey and not a destination.
God will show you how to take care of your health, and overcoming addiction is one way you will begin to take care of yourself. And God will completely change you.
You will no longer be an addictive personality, but you will become a completely new person. God will show you step by step and moment by moment just why you do not need what you were once addicted to.
So when you are sealed whenever you are tempted with that old addiction God will work with you to show you how it will not be a pleasure but instead a painful experience. This is how you will overcome addiction when you receive the Seal.

How bad is Drug Abuse in the United States of America? How can we stop abuse of drugs with our young people? Why is the war on drugs a lost cause? Is legalization of drugs the right solution? What will we do in the future as all these folks in their teens or still young adults hit their middle thirties and need new Heart Valves? How can our already over taxed health care system handle it? All good questions indeed.
The answers are not so easy however, as drug abuse in the US is a huge problem and small businesses constantly complain about the drug problems and difficulty in hiring labor. The war on drugs seems to be a dead end game. If we stop the drugs from Mexico, we hurt legal trade with more barriers to entry and even if we do, most of the Meth is home grown in the cities and towns near where it is used anyway.
Legalization of drugs, which many have pondered seems like a solution but is it really? After all more druggies will not help the work force or health care costs in the future and although it might lower the costs and decrease petty crimes, it will still be a huge problem. Today we seem to have more problems and questions than answers. So, if you have a solution, well now is a good time to speak up. Consider this in 2006.

According to the Drug Abuse Warning Network, Cocaine was involved in over 380,000 emergency room visits in 2004 alone. Cocaine is extremely potent, whether taken in powder or the crack forms. Mild symptoms include increased heart rate, sleep disorders and convulsions. Snorting the drug can permanently damage nasal tissue. Cocaine interferes with brain processes, can cause heart attacks, seizures and strokes. Even first time use can cause fatal heart attacks. For those it doesnt kill, the addiction can easily lead to habits that require thousands of dollars a week to support. Cocaine also has severe effects on the unborn. This can start at underweight babies or pre-term labor on up to miscarriage. Cocaine can cause placental wall tearing, losing the attachment to the uterus. This can kill mother and baby at birth if not detected in time. If the baby survives birth, cocaine can lead to strokes, heart attacks, urinary infections and heart defects. While it appears many babies exposed to cocaine use in the womb can eventually recover, it also appears that this doubles their chances of developmental delays.
According to the Drug Abuse Warning Network, Heroin was involved in over 160,000 emergency room visits in 2004 alone. Heroin suppresses the central nervous system, resulting in poor mental functioning, and can even suppress the autonomic functions to the point of respiratory failure. Chronic use damages the heart, liver and circulatory system and increases the risk of pulmonary issues such as pneumonia. Heroin abusers generally use injections, with associated infection risk including HIV. Additionally, the drug is often mixed with other chemicals to allow a given quantity to result in more sales, so strength is always unknown and poisons have been used to stretch the drug supply. Children who were exposed to heroin before birth will go through horrible withdrawal symptoms after birth, and have ten times the chance of dying of SIDS. Developmental slowdowns are also possible.
According to the Drug Abuse Warning Network, Methamphetamine was involved in over 70,000 emergency room visits in 2004 alone. Amphetamines, including the club drug Ecstasy, can cause psychotic behavior and brain damage. This includes hallucinations, delusions, and paranoia and can lead to homicidal or suicidal thoughts. Physical effects are similar to Alzheimers and strokes. Ecstasy in particular can lead to kidney damage and memory loss, though long term human studies are still inconclusive. For the unborn, risks include clubfoot, cleft palates, heart and limb defects, retarded development and maternal bleeding. Babies can go through withdrawal symptoms, but long term studies are still underway to identify long term prices.

Addiction has powerfully negative effects on adolescents, their families and the realization of their hopes and dreams. The sad fact is that that every addict started life as a human being with great potential. The addiction, like an overwhelming cancer can consume these hopes and dreams. There are different stages of addiction. Each stage would require a different type of treatment modality. They are the early stage, the middle stage and the late or advanced stage of addiction. Addiction is chronic, progressive and sometimes fatal. There are many forms of treatment for adolescent addiction. No one single treatment is effective for all individuals. Treatment must touch on all facets of the adolescents life. Social, family, school, legal and medical are just some areas that need to be a focus on, in treatment. If the adolescent is using heroin, medication management may be successful, such as buprenorphine or methadone.
If an adolescent is using drugs, the best form of treatment always includes the family. Family participation and counseling is vital in providing proper treatment to the adolescent. Without family participation, the chances of the adolescent getting into recovery are low.

Depending on the specifics of the addiction, alcohol or drug addiction treatment can take many different forms. The exact treatment used depends on the severity of the problem, the length of time that the addiction has had its hold and any family or personal history specifics that may impact the case. A treatment plan is customized with those variables in mind.
If you are addicted to one of the so-called “hard drugs,” such as heroin or cocaine, a stay in a residential drug rehab facility is virtually a necessity. Only a residential drug rehab program will provide you with the constant medical surveillance and care to appropriately and safely withdraw physically from your drug of choice. Many residential drug rehab stays are quite short-term, just long enough to ensure your physical well-being. This type of inpatient alcohol or drug rehab treatment is quite often covered by your regular medical insurance. If you do not have insurance or your insurance will not pay, do not let this dissuade you from seeking a medically necessary inpatient drug rehab program. Some programs offer sliding scale rates based on your ability to pay.
If your drug of choice is safe to physically withdraw from without assistance from the medical staff members, you may be able to avoid an inpatient alcohol or drug rehab program altogether. . If your insurance or sliding-scale program covers only a short-term emergency stay, you will be out of residential drug rehab very quickly. Anyway, you will then need to choose from among the available outpatient alcohol or drug addiction treatment choices.
Regardless of whether your drug addiction treatment occurs on an inpatient or outpatient basis, your treatment course will follow a basic pattern. You will meet with a drug addiction counselor, usually a licensed therapist with specialized training in addictions. This person will conduct your intake interview. This interview will be long and complicated, as the counselor attempts to determine the details of your specific addiction, any history of drug addiction in your family, other psychological disorders that may exist and your general medical history.
Based on the data gathered during the intake interview and the policies of the company, you may be scheduled for appointments with other specialists. These experts may include a psychiatrist, a nutritionist, a therapist or a peer counselor, as well as nurses and other support staff. The various experts that assist with your drug addiction treatment are collectively known as your treatment team. Your addiction treatment team will work together to design and implement your plan for recovery, which is also known as your individualized treatment plan.
Under older systems, clients were not as involved in the decision making process. This was because drug addicted people were thought to not be as sound of mind as potential experts. With changes to the system, the plans are more client-involved and offer more assistance to make the client involved in all of the major decisions. The days of strapping an addicted person to a chair and draining drugs from his or her body are, luckily, gone.
The customizable drug treatment plans are becoming more and more popular, as people start to take charge of their healing process. With education and insight, drug addicts are more than capable of making their own treatment decisions. They are living the addiction, so they should be experiencing the drug addiction treatment process with hands-on involvement.

Coming out
I was raised in Christchurch, but went to an all boys boarding school in Masterton for 5 years. During my time there, I always knew I was gay. I actually joined the mailing list for the then Pink Triangle newspaper, which arrived monthly in a brown unmarked envelope. It was thrilling for me to see images and read articles about us or me or how I was feeling! Thank goodness for those early pioneers in gay media.
I came out to my parents when I was 19. I invited them around to my flat after work, sat them down, and told them. They were very upset, but I think although they said it was a shock, I believe they were more shocked I told them. My Mother cried a lot and my father disowned me for about 10 days, but after that they were pretty cool.
Ive lived in, and explored the gay scenes of Christchurch, Auckland, San Francisco and London, but my experience with all of these cities is similar - clubbing, drinking, drugs, sex, and cruising. Naturally the openness of the gay communities in these cities varies. Two of the largest Gay cities in the world, San Francisco and London, have distinct areas and communities defined by location. They feel more safe and free and seem to protect the scene and the people on it.
Needing a drink
My alcoholism, I believe, began at birth. I needed a Gin when I was 3! Honestly though, I have always been a person with the words More and Now in my vocabulary. This alcoholism is just that - an ism - a disease.
The truth is: in all walks of life, from the poor to the very rich, the professional to the uneducated, in countries where alcohol is discouraged and countries where it is the fabric of life, there are alcoholics everywhere.
I believe there is a higher rate of unmanageability around drinking and drug taking on any gay scene, as there is an inherent belief that somehow we can be less responsible in our actions. Perhaps we still see ourselves as special, different, still oppressed, or perhaps believe that the community-wide does not really take us seriously. Why be responsible when society does not expect us to be? The other consideration is that for many years a Gay Bar was the only place to meet other gay people, so if you did not drink you were in for a long night.
The darkest times
The bleakest times are frequent during an active alcoholics life (active meaning still drinking and using drugs). I am an Alcoholic even now although I have not used any mind-altering drug or taken a drink for over five years. I have a daily program which allows the obsession to use to be removed.
I did need help, but only when I was ready to admit that I was unable to stay sober on my own. There were some days, weeks even, where I could drink normally - maybe a few wines or even days without it. In fact when I first got help for my addiction I stayed dry for five months, but because I still was not ready to accept that I had a problem, I could not stay sober. I drank again for another 18 months before I finally was so low, lonely, and yes, suicidal, that I was prepared to admit completely that I needed help.
The lowest time was the realisation that whatever I promised myself about what I would or would not do around drink and drugs, it all went out the door when I had my first drink of the day. My resolve to be good never worked. After a night of cocaine, drinks and smokes, and copious amounts of sex with anonymous partners, I woke up in my apartment in London alone, shaking with the DTs and very depressed. At that moment I decided that this could not continue, and I went to my first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in London. I have not used since.
I was fortunate to have met a friend in AA who I had gone to school with in NZ and he was 8 years sober at the time. He suggested an AA meeting to go to, and from then on AA became the most important thing in my life. It wasnt easy, but it was simple - go to meetings and dont pick up the first drink, because thats the one that gets me drunk.
The support from the friends I met at the meetings cannot compare to anything I had experienced in my life and I am and always will be grateful for AA.
And now
I feel amazing, free, and very happy most of the time. The thing about life is it is full of ups and downs, but instead of my default response to everything good or bad, to drink, I dont!
I can deal with life on lifes terms, and I try to not take myself or others too seriously. I spent much of my time either judging or trying to control people, places and things. I have learnt that all of that is very exhausting and if I concentrate on doing the best I can and accept that it is none of my business what others do or say, then I have a chance for some peace of mind.
Fear is a big thing for an addict of any type and for the most part I recognise that now and know that I dont have to react anymore. Acceptance of my addictive nature is key and knowing that my life is way better without alcohol and drugs is the real freedom from this disease.
My suggestion for any readers who might think they have some issues around using alcohol and drugs there is hope and a solution and it comes in many forms.
The most important thing is that you arrive at the decision yourself, to seek help.
In my experience no one can be forced to get sober, it has to get bad enough for the individual to want to change.

Dual Diagnosis Information Dual diagnosis means that a person has two different illnesses. They have a mental health or behavioral condition, and they also have an addiction or a substance abuse problem. Dual diagnosis is going to take a toll on much more than just the parts of a persons life that are affected by drug abuse and alcohol abuse.
Dual diagnosis is something that many people have. Studies have shown that almost half of the people who have an drug addiction will also have a mental health issue as well. When an addiction treatment center only deals with drug addiction, and fails to deal with the actual mental health issues, the mental health problems are going to lead right back to addiction after the person has been in recovery. This happens more often than we are aware of, and it could be one of the biggest contributors to chronic relapse.
When it comes right down to it, mental health and addiction issues should be treated together. If you have gone through addiction treatment and have gone back to using, you might have a mental health condition that is preventing you from getting any better. Perhaps there is depression, or other mental health issues that are keeping you from staying on the path to recovery. If you are looking for an addiction treatment program capable of effectively treating dual diagnosis you might try www.lakeviewhealth.com or go to www.steppingstonecenter.org For additional information on dual diagnosis, mental health issues, drug addiction or alcoholism go to www.dual-diagnosis-treatment-center.com

Anyone can check for themselves, but each shooting in the country has been done by someone who had been on or is currently on psychiatric drugs. Some claim it is because they went off their medication that caused them to do what they did. Think about that for a minute. How can a medication be good if it has this kind of side effect?
How can anyone think that adding chemicals to their bodies that are not natural can be a good thing? How can anyone think that psychiatric drugs that are more addicting than heroin can be good? Why do people continue to allow this profession to administer these kinds of drugs to our children? I must admit it is a very lucrative game plan. It is a multi billion dollar enterprise per year. But at what cost?
How many kids must be killed before we take a real good look at the cause. If these drugs are as bad as I state, would you want to have your kid be on them? The Baltimore county school system in Maryland as over 50% of the kids on Ritalin. Ritalin is very addictive. The kids now must be on the drug, in order to go to school. It makes them into very nicely controlled zombies.
One thing you may want to do is check to see what the definition for ADHD is and compare it to the definition of a normal child. Last time I did that the two definitions were the same or extremely close.
What does that say? That the psychiatric community has a plan to put all children on a drug in order to get them to be more manageable. This to me is insane.
And the end result is a child who is not really helped, not getting his problems addressed properly and becoming frustrated with life. Signs that there is something wrong often go unhandled. Then when the worse occurs, people blame the kid for not taking his medication.
As a people, we need to wake up and demand that the psychiatric community be held responsible for their actions. They are killing our children.
