If you are trying to earn a bit of extra cash off your blog, you will need traffic. It can take a while to build up to a decent level of traffic and while you are waiting, you might feel discouraged. After all, hearing about these bloggers who get thousands of visitors per day while you have just ten or fifteen can make you feel pretty low!

Theres no need to worry, though. Everyone starts off slow. However, there are ways to explode your traffic levels so you can get up to those high numbers faster and really start earning some money!

Dont be sucked in by the promises of traffic exchange programs. These will certainly send your visitor count through the roof, but unless you are getting paid per hit, you will earn absolutely nothing from these. The visitors who arrive at your site have no interest in your blog, they are only clicking there to get points and are therefore worthless to you. These programs are a waste of time and money.

Article marketing is an excellent way to get your traffic levels up. Post your articles on free article directories and include a link back to your blog in the resource box. When other blogs or websites pick up your article for use, you will get links back to your site and access to their visitor database. You can also offer your articles to ezines with a large list, and a percentage of that list will click through to your blog.

Another way to bring in large amounts of traffic is to hold a contest. Contests are very popular, especially if you are offering a decent prize. You can hold a draw or a skill contest (such as a poetry or writing contest) and post it for free on dozens of contest websites. Just do a search on Google to find contest directories where you can post your opportunity. Free contests will bring in far more traffic than ones that require an entrance fee.

Offering free ebooks or reports on your blog can also bring in a lot of traffic fast. People love free things and they will flock to your blog to pick up a limited edition freebie which you can advertise on other sites. In fact, you will end up with a lot of unexpected backlinks if you are offering free things!

Getting your blog listed in as many blog directories as possible is a good way to get more traffic, as well. Not to mention great PR backlinks! There are literally hundreds of blog and website directories available now and it will take you a while to list your blog with all the relevant ones. Once you do, you should see an increase in blog traffic.

Using just one of the above techniques will not blast your blog traffic into orbit. You will need to use a combination of methods in order to really get your traffic going. These methods and others that you will find as you go are the key to exploding your blog traffic.
